GEORGE MEDAL
Rank: Carpenter
Awarded on: December 18th, 1942
Action: Citation:
"Whilst on patrol duty, Police Constable Williams heard an explosion and, on arriving at the scene, was called into a building and told that workmen had inadvertently gone into a part of the grounds that was mined.
He saw an injured man lying on the ground some distance away. Williams, although well aware of the great danger from other mines, immediately went to the casualty and carried him into the building. Fenton, who was also engaged upon work in the building, on hearing the explosion and seeing another man lying unconscious in the grounds, unhesitatingly climbed out of a basement window and traversed the mined area. He reached the victim and succeeded in carrying him to safety. Fenton and Williams showed great courage and complete disregard of their personal safety."
