Action: During 17 and 18 November 1942 Lieutenant-Colonel Keyes was the commander of a unit that was dropped 400 kilometres behind enemy lines near Beda Littoria, Libya. His mission was to attack a building, which was reported to be General Rommel’s headquarter. Once they were in the vicinity of the target Lieutenant-Colonel Keys and two of his officers went in the direction of the building. After avoiding several sentries he entered the first room and killed all occupants. The occupants of the second room were warned by the shots and when he entered the second room he was shot and wounded mortally.
Details: Geoffrey Charles Tasker Keyes is buried at the Benghazi War Cemetery, Libya.
