Action:
|
On 8 and 9 April 1944 Lance-Corporal Harman was in command of a small forward unit near Kohima, India. 50 meters further the enemy had positioned a machine-gun post that formed a great thread to the rest of his company. Without any doubts Lance-Corporal Harman stormed forwards and managed to put the enemy machine-gun post out of action with the use of fragmentation grenades. During the next day Lance-Corporal Harman was ordered to provide covering fire with his Bren gun for an advancing unit. When he noticed that a Japanese unit was digging in he left his position and stormed forwards. During this solo action Lance-Corporal Harman put five Japanese soldiers out of action, including one with the use of his bayonet. However on the way back to his own position Lance-Corporal Harman was mortally wounded and died at the spot a few minutes later.
