Action: On May 21, 1940, near the river Escout in Belgium, sergeant-major Gristock formed a group of eight volunteers who had to defend the right flank, which on that moment was threatened, to be taken by surprise. When he arrived on this location he stole forward with a volunteer. In spite of being injured earlier to his legs, he eliminated a machinegun post. After this action he dragged himself back until he had made contact with his own unit, but nevertheless he died just later to his wounds.
