Two armored vehicles of The King's Dragoon Guards had been destroyed during a fighting action on November 23, 1941 in Tobruk, Libya. Then Captain Gardner decided to bring to safety the crew of these vehicles, with two tanks. Once arrived he fixed a rope add an officer, whose legs were fired off, and hoist him on board. In spite of been injured at this rescue action and still under heavy fire, he could nevertheless reach his own lines.
