Awarded on: January 6th, 1944
Action: Havildar Gaje had in the period of May 24 up to May 27, 1943 in Chin Hills, Burma the command of an inexperienced platoon who had the task to attack a Japanese position. In spite of his wounds to its arm, chest and leg he led the one after the other attack and knew to encourage his men with the "Gurkha's Battle-Cry". Inspired by their commander his men stormed forward and they eventual conquer the violent post. Havildar Gaje let treat himself to his injuries just after he had secured the position.
Details: Later promoted to the rank of Hon. Captain.
Havildar Gaje has died on an age of 77, on March 28, 2000.
