Action: During a raid at daylight on July 4, 1941 above Bremen in Germany, Wing
Commander Edwards led a formation of bombers. On an altitude of fifteen meters he led the bombers though a tangle of telephone- and electricity cables and under violent anti aircraft fire to the port of this city. At this action four bombers were eliminated, the rest was hit, but they could return safely under command of Edwards to their home base.
Details: Wing Commander Edward’s Victoria Cross is publicly displayed at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australia.
Later promoted to the rank of Air Commodore and knighted as Sir Hughie.
