Roger L. Hicks finally reached the rank of Captain during the Second World War. After the Second World War he stayed in the U.S. Air Force and finally reached the rank of Brigadier General.

7th July 1964 - 17th August 1964: Commanding Officer 494th Bombardment Wing;
11th January 1965 - 2nd April 1966: Commanding Officer 494th Bombardment Wing;
18th August 1966 - 1st July 1967: Comanding Officer 42nd Air Division;
12th July 1967 - 22nd Febraury 1969: Commanding Officer 4th Air Division.

Citation:
"For extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a P-51 type aircraft. On 23 September 1943, Captain Hicks flew on a visual reconnaissance mission over the area extending from the mouth of the Volturne River, through Capua to Amorosi, Italy. Skillfully maneuvering his aircraft through heavy anti-aircraft fire for a distance of thirty miles, Captain Hicks obtained much valuable information concerning the location of enemy supplies and communication centers. Then having completed his assigned task, Captain Hicks, with complete disregard for his own safety, returned to the area and photographed many more gun positions and other enemy installations which were of invaluable assistance to our ground forces in attacking the enemy in this sector. His steadfast devotion to duty and outstanding proficiency in combat reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States."
