On October 16, 1944, at east of Overloon in the Netherlands, sergeant Eardly with his platoon got the command to make clear an orchard in which the enemy hide himself. Because of this the allied advance stopped. On approximately 80 meters of their aim they came under violent heavy fire. Sergeant Eardly stormed forward and eliminates one enemy post by throwing hand grenades. In his attempt to eliminate a second post on his own initiative the rest of its platoon came under heavily hostile fire and Eardly’s men touched discouraged. But nevertheless strengthened by the one man action of Sergeant Eardly they scraped their courage at each other and conquered eventual their aim.
