MILITARY MEDAL (MM)
Rank: Sergeant
Unit: Royal Regiment of Canada
Awarded on: September 15th, 1945
Action: Extract:
"In the course of the night, Sergeant L.D Young, of the Support Company, volunteered to bring up small arms ammuninitions to the forward localities, and did so despite the very heavy shell and mortar-fire that was saturating the area. For this and for later acts of gallantry Sergeant Young was awarded the Military Medal."

Citation:
"Before the flame throwers could get within range, they were subjected to intense enemy machine gun fire. Sergent Lyle Young, commanding one of the carriers, quickly appreciated the gravity of the situation and with no thought for his own safety, raced forward through enemy fire... and with three burst of flame... wiped out the enemy crew. He then swung the carrier around and sprayed fire on the machine posts."
