"As air bomber, Pilot Officer Hoy has participated in very many sorties and has proved himself to be a cool, confident and efficient member of aircraft crew. On one occasion he took part in an attack on Stuttgart. When nearing the target area heavy anti-aircraft fire was encountered. A
shell bursted beneath the aircraft which was thrown over on its back by the force of the explosion, coupled with the violent effect of the slipstream. Considerable height was lost before the pilot regained control when course was resumed. Although he was badly shaken, Pilot Officer Hoy directed the bombing run with great coolness and the target was successfully attacked."
