"In November, Squadron Leader Halahan, with another officer, attacked and shot down a Dornier 17. In May 1940, he led a formation of eight aircraft on a bomber protection patrol near Maastricht where sixteen enemy aircraft were attacked, six of which were destroyed. In the engagement this officer himself shot down two enemy aircraft. Squadron Leader Halahan has at all times set an excellent example to his pilots and is mainly responsible for the fine spirit of his squadron which, while under his command, has destroyed approximately seventy enemy aircraft."
