Awarded on: November 30th, 1944
Action: During 18/20 August 1944 Major Currie was the commander of a unit made up off tanks, anti-tank guns, vehicles and infantry. His mission was to cut-off one of the German escape routes near Falaise, France. After the capture of the village of St. Lambert-sur-Dives his unit was attacked by German troops for a period of 36 hours. Despite heavy losses Major Currie never thought of giving up. During his last counter attack his unit put 7 German tanks, 12 88mm guns and 40 vehicles out of action. 300 German soldiers were killed, 500 were wounded and 1100 were taken prisoner. The remaining Germans were forced to retreat.
Details: Later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
David Currie is buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in Ontario, Canada.
