BIOGRAPHY:
Paul Evrard was born in Liège on September 9th 1920. After going to school on the Koninklijk Atheneum in his hometown, he went to the University, also in Liège. Here he stays till May 1940. When War broke out, he went to the south of France and sailed from St-Jean-de-Luz with a Polish transport ship to Great-Britain. At first Evrard was trained for Artillery service with the Belgian troops, but was transferred to the Royal Air Force in the middle of 1941. He followed his pilot training in England and Canada. He was promoted to Pilot Officer on September 23rd 1942 and carried on his training in England.
Finally Paul Evrard was placed with No 610 “County of Chester” Squadron on April 13th 1943. He started his operational flights with this unit on April 20th. His promotion to Flying Officer came on May 20th. He was wounded in a landing accident on May 21st and was treated in the Royal Cornwall Infirmary at Truro, where he was discharged on September 13th and returned to his unit. During a search for downed pilots over the North Sea on November 4th 1943, where they were flying on very low altitude, Paul Evrard hit the waves and disappeared in the sea. From that day on Paul Evrard is Missed in Action.
