Johannes Adrianus de Jong was executed by the Japanese military at Sario-Menado.

Action: Recommendation:
For having performed outstanding deeds of courage, tact and loyalty in battle and having distinguished himself by:
1. having refused as Commander of the detachment Kolonedale on Celebes, on or around March 21st, 1942, after the Army in the Dutch East-Indies had already capitulated and after having received from his Commander the order to surrender to the Japanese, to hand over the arms of his troops, even refusing to seize the arms of some sixty people whose arms had already been surrendered by another officer in Poso on Celebes,
2. having decided, after the European families from Central Celebes had been transferred to Poso for internment, to continue fighting until the end with his troops in the area around Poso, knowing this would have to be done under the most adverse conditions and knowing that this would mean the death penalty for himself when captured,
3. having engaged an overwhelming enemy force in the period between April and June 1942, repeatedly causing heavy casualties, forcing this 300 to 400 strong enemy detached to ask for re-inforcements from Makassar and
4. having conducted himself fearlessly during his imprisonment and at his execution.
