Action: Received his award posthumously for dismantling an unexploded bomb on 17th. October 1940 which had fallen in the Triumph Engineering Company's works in Coventry. The next day he was killed whilst dealing with another unexploded bomb.

Alexander Campbell is buried at the Coventry Cemetery in Warwickshire, Great Britain.
Campbell's awards are on display in the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham, Kent, Great Britain.
