As Leutnant der Reserve and Adjutant der Panzerjäger-Abteilung der Division “Großdeutschland” Friederich Anding received his Knight’s Cross for the destruction of 6 tanks and 5 armored vehicles on 8 May 1945. This action took place in northern Germany (more specifically in Stadensen) on 14-15 April. The battalion was attacked by a large number of enemy tanks and armored vehicles. Major Gustav Walle, commanding officer, had 9 kills and Obergefreiter Nepomuk Stützle had 7 kills. Along with Anding, both of these men were awarded the Knight’s Cross.
