Action: On 21 November 1941 Brigadier Campbell’s unit suffered from continuous attacks near Sidi Rezegh, Libya. During one of these attacks several of his men were wounded causing Brigadier Campbell to operate a battery personally. During this last counter attack he was wounded but refused to be evacuated. His brilliant leadership caused the enemy heavy casualties and motivated his men.
Details: Brigadier Campbell’s Victoria Cross is publicly displayed at the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich, Great Britain.
Later promoted to the rank of Major General.
Killed in action on 26 February 1942, Libya.
