Action: When an attack was hold up by enemy fire on 8 October 1944 near Monte Ceco, Italy, Private Burton rushed towards the enemy killing three enemies with his Tommy gun. Endangering his own safety he further managed to put two enemy machine-guns out of action so making it possible for the rest of his company to consolidate their position. During later counter attacks he managed to beat off the enemy despite losing many of his friends. He eventually forced the enemy to retreat.
Details: Later promoted tot the rank of Corporal.
Richard Henry Burton is buried at Kirriemuir Cemetery, Great Britain.
