BIOGRAPHY:
Working with the Dutch Railroad, Van As started collecting information and weapons, right after the Dutch capitulation om May 15, 1940.
He was one of the founders of a resistance group in the fall of 1940, that later formed a part of the resistance group "de Leeuwengarde" (the Lionguard).
He was arrested on april 9th 1942 and prisoned in the "Polizeiliches Durchgangslager Amersfoort"(Police Prisoncamp Amersfoort).
During a trial against the resistance group "de Leeuwengarde", from november 16th to november 29th 1942 in Utrecht, Van As was sentenced to death along with twelve other members.
They were shot on the Leusderheide on december 29th 1942.
His body was burried on the shooting site, but he was reburried on december 1st 1945 on Gemeentelijke Algemene Begraafplaats Crooswijk, Rotterdam, row CC, number 3536.
