Action: On 10 July 1944, a section of the 5th Mahratta Light Infantry came under heavy enemy fire in the Tiber Valley, Italy. This attack caused the allied force heavy casualties. When he noticed this, Naik Yeshwant stormed forwards without any hesitation and managed to put an enemy machine-gun post out of action. When he switched his magazine, an enemy sniper mortally wounded Naik Yeshwant.
