Action: On 22 November 1944 Sepoy Bhandari Ram’s Company came under heavy enemy fire at East Mayu near Arakan, Burma. Although already wounded he managed to crawl within 5 meters distance of the enemy machine-guns and was hit for a second time during this action. At this moment Sepoy Bhandari Ram threw a fragmentation grenade putting the machine-gun out of action and killing the machine-gunner and two others. Inspired by his action the other members of his platoon attacked the enemy and took the remaining enemies prisoner. Only then the wounds of Sepoy Bhandari Ram were dressed.
Details: Later promoted to the rank of Subadar.
Bhandari Ram died on 19 May 2002 at the age of 82, and is cremated at Auhur, Himachal Pradesh, India.
