From 1939 until June 1940 he served as Kommandeur of Minensucher "M 1802" within the 1.S-Minensucherflottile then serving in the West. The ship, a former fishing trawler, was destroyed when it struck a mine on 19th June 1940. After he recovered from his injuries he served with several Navy Staffs. Between February 1941 and September 1944 he served as Stabchef 4.Sicherungs-Division in the French coastal waters (Lorient and La Rochelle). The unit was disbanded in September 1944. Jacob then served with Stab Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine in die Niederlande until March 1945. Then he became the Kommandeur "Texel" in the Netherlands. Here he was involved in supressing the 5th April 1945 uprising of the Georgian Legion on Texel.
