On 28 March 1942 Able Seaman Savage was a gunner aboard MGB.314 during the Royal Navy’s attack on St.Nazaire, France. Despite the lack of cover after the attack, Able Seaman Savage kept on firing his cannon at enemy forces until he was shot himself and died as a result of his wounds.
