Lieutenant-Commander Roope fought on April 8, 1940, in the area around Norway with his ship, HMS Glowworm, an unequal a fight with the German cruiser Admiral Hipper. Already hits ship was hit by the
German cruiser and Roope decided these ram. He coursed right into the Admiral Hipper which brought considerable damage to his opponent.
Also his crew was capable, even before their ship capsized and sunk, to fire a salvo at close range. Only one officer of a total of thirty crew members was rescued by the Germans. Lieutenant-Commander Roope had gone with his ship to the bottom of the sea.
