Action: During a flight to Dusseldorf in Germany on November 3, 1943, his plane was attacked by Messerschmitt. As a result the bomber was heavy damage. Although Reid was also hit during this attack, he knew to continue his flight. At the next attack of the German hunter several crew members were killed and
Reid was hit again. In spite of all these developments he knew to drop his bombs and went back to base. After a precarious flight he was able to return safely back to his base.
Details: Flight Lieutenant Reid died at an age of 79 years on November 28, 2001.
William Reid is buried at the Crieff Cemetery, Scotland.
