On the night of 26/27 March 1943 Second Lieutenant Ngarimu and his platoon stormed an enemy hilltop position near Tobaga, Tunisia. Second Lieutenant Ngarimu was the first one to reach the hilltop, which was under heavy enemy fire, and managed to put two machine-gun posts out of action. Despite several wounds he and his platoon managed to beat off several enemy counter-attacks during the night. However, just before reinforcements arrived, Second Lieutenant Ngarimu was shot again and died some time later.
