Action: During the Battle for Arnhem, Holland, in September 1944 Lance-Sergeant Baskeyfield was in charge of a 6-pounder anti-tank gun. During heavy fighting in the village of Oosterbeek on 20 September he and his crew knocked out two Tiger tanks and at least one Self Propelled gun. Although Lance-Sergeant Baskeyfield was wounded and all of his crew became casualties he still managed to operate the gun all by himself. When his gun was ultimately put out of action Lance Sergeant Baskeyfield crawled to another nearby 6-pounder and started to handle it single-handed. He started firing at two other Self Propelled guns and was killed in this engagement after scoring some hits. Lance-Sergeant Baskeyfield has no know grave.
