Action: On 12 May 1945 Corporal Mackey’s section received enemy fire from three different sides while they were in North Borneo. Corporal Mackey stormed towards the first enemy position and put it out of action. After dealing with the second enemy position in the same way he stormed in the direction of the third enemy position. He managed to put two other enemy soldiers out of action but was eventually killed himself.

John Bernard Mackey is buried at the Labuan War Cemetery,Sabah,Malaya.
