Action: During the period 22/27 April 1943 Captain Lyell’s leadership and heroic actions made it possible for his company to capture its objectives near DJ Bou Arade, Tunisia. He and four of his men for example managed to destroy an enemy machine-gun post and an enemy 88mm canon on 27 April. During this action three of his men were killed, and while his Lance Corporal was providing covering fire, Captain Lyell stormed forwards alone and destroyed another enemy machine-gun post. Captain Lyell was wounded mortally during this action and died of his wounds some time later.
