Awarded on: September 18th, 1945
Action: During the Battle for Arnhem, September 1944, the 1st Airborne Division ran short of supplies and ammunition. Although his Dakota was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire Flight Lieutenant Lord managed to drop the so much needed supplies. After this dropping he found out that not all containers were dropped and he turned around for another run. Following the drop of the last cargo he ordered his men to leave the burning plane. A few moments later Flight Lieutenant Lord and his plane crashed near Oosterbeek.
Details: David Lord is buried at the War Cemetery in Oosterbeek, the Netherlands.
