Biography:  The 5th Engineer Special Brigade was formed on November 12th, 1943 in Swansea, Great Britain. Is was formed out of the Headquarter and the Headquarters Company, 1119th Engineer Combat Group. The unit participated in the landings at Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944 and operated that beach until November 19th, 1944. From January 4th, 1945 it operated in the Seine section in Paris and returned to the United States on July 11th. October 20th, 1945 it was deactivated at Camp Gordon Johnston, Florida.
