The "Haakon VII's 70-års-medalje" was instituted by request of King Haakon on October 27th, 1942. The decoration was awarded to Norwegian Army military personnel that were in service in Great Britain on August 3rd, 1942.

The medal measures 32 mm in diameter, shows the portrait of King Haakon and the text "HAAKON VII NORGES KONGE". The medallion is crowned with the king's crown. The 32 mm wide ribbon is red with two yellow stripes in the centre.
