The so-called Umalatova awards were invented and instituted by Sazhi Zaindinovna Umalatova, the female chairman of the Russian Party of Peace and Unity. She decided to award unawarded en newly produced Soviet Awards on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. She also invented several new medals, in remembrance of persons and events from the Soviet era. Although it are unofficial medals, forbidden by the Russian government, servicemen and veterans do wear them on the uniform.
